Storytelling in Japanese Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is having a large-scale exhibition on Japanese Folk Painting. This is a must-see show for anyone living in the United States. Roberta Smith, one of the biggest names in the field of Art Review, wrote a brilliant review on this show and it went out last Friday in the New York Times! I have never imagined that she would write about Japanese Art.

FINALS:
On Tuesday, Dec. 20th, you can drop off all of your work at 5:45PM with me in the Painting Studio. I will be there but do not stay for the entire class time, so email me. No attendance during the Finals Week, but you can fail the entire course if you forget to submit your work on Dec. 20th because the next day is the Grade Due. Please do not wait until the last minute and do not take any chance on this.

Bring me medical notes on or before Dec. 20th if your attendance has been poor.

We are not allowed to meet on Reading Day (Dec. 13th) and this is a college policy. However, you can leave your work with the Visual Arts office (M223-office G, Mr. Helmut Eppich, 718-482-5709) with a note for me, Nozomi. I will not be on campus on Dec. 13th but will be available via email.

I asked everyone to photograph all of their paintings to post on their blogs with comments. This is especially true when you cannot make Dec. 20th. ePortfolio is optional.

All paintings and sketchbooks will be returned after the Finals Week before the college closes for the holidays. This is a standard procedure for all studio art courses at LaGuardia.

Homework WEEK 10:
Complete all paintings and bring all of them next week. Update your blog with images and writings. We are probably visiting a painter's studio in Brooklyn on the last day of class (Dec. 6th), so I will distribute related info next Tuesday, after I confirm this visit with the artist.

WEEK 9

Lab hours for the Abstract from Nature Project. Reading distributed. Videos and discussions on Picasso and a community-based painting project in Brazil. Individual conferences for the final project.

Extra Credit 2 (Optional)

LaGuardia Drawing Marathon in M229 from 5:00PM Saturday, Nov. 19th to 10:00AM Sunday, 20th. Overnight life drawing sessions on campus. Bring your sketchbook. There will be an attendance sheet, so please sign your name at the entrance. No photographing the nude models or talking on a Cell Phone while models are posing. Contact the Visual Arts office for more details. Refreshments will be served overnight, for free. Free Admission and you can come and go anytime.
